The Zillertal—right on our doorstep
As the gateway to the Zillertal, Wiesing is located right where one of Tyrol’s most famous valleys begins. A special experience is the historic Zillertalbahn, which has been running since 1902 with its nostalgic steam train from Jenbach through the picturesque valley to Mayrhofen. Once you take a seat on the wooden benches and hear the characteristic whistle of the steam locomotive, you’ll be transported back in time—an excursion that delights railroad enthusiasts and families alike.
Lake Achensee—Tyrol's Largest Lake
Just a few minutes from Wiesing lies Lake Achensee, Tyrol’s largest lake, nestled between the Karwendel and Rofan mountain ranges. A highlight is the Lake Achensee cruise: Boats have been sailing across the lake since 1887, stopping at ports such as Pertisau, the Gaisalm, and Scholastika. Aboard the modern boats, you can enjoy a relaxing cruise with views of the turquoise-blue water and the surrounding mountains—a perspective not possible from the shore.
Tratzberg Castle – A Renaissance Gem in the Inn Valley
Just about a 10-minute drive from Wiesing stands Tratzberg Castle, one of Austria’s most beautiful Renaissance castles. Once used as a hunting lodge by Emperor Maximilian I, the castle today features magnificently preserved original rooms such as the Habsburg Hall and the castle chapel. A guided tour takes you on a journey through the eventful history of the Tänzl, Fugger, and Enzenberg families, who have shaped the castle over the centuries.
Cities for Shopping, Museums, and Leisure
If you’re in the mood for some city charm, you’ll find several different destinations in the region:
In Innsbruck, the Old Town beckons with the Golden Roof, the city’s landmark featuring over 2,600 gilded copper shingles. You can spend an entire day here exploring museums, cafés, and shops before taking the Nordkettenbahn up to an altitude of 2,300 meters in the Karwendel Mountains.
Schwaz is home to the Schwaz Silver Mine, the largest silver mine of the Middle Ages, where you can ride the mine train 800 meters into the mountain. The old town, with its historic buildings, is also a great place to stroll.
Wörgl is considered the shopping capital of the Tyrolean lowlands: Bahnhofstraße is one of the longest shopping streets in Tyrol and offers a colorful mix of shops, cafés, and restaurants for a relaxing shopping trip.
