Pleasure,

Cuisine
in the Zillertal
After a day in the mountains, everything tastes twice as good in the Zillertal. From hearty mountain snacks at the hut to award-winning cuisine in the valley, from locally distilled schnapps to the traditional Zillertal beer—there’s something to satisfy every palate here.
Tyrolean Mountain Hut Culture
Whether after a hike or a day of skiing, the mountain huts and alpine inns of the Zillertal offer classics like Kaiserschmarrn, Kasspatzln, and Speckknödel. Many of these huts use regional ingredients sourced directly from local farms and have even won awards for their cuisine.
Hut Cuisine in the Zillertal
Those who prefer a more upscale dining experience will also find what they’re looking for: The Mountain Loft, located right next to the Spieljochbahn mountain station in Fügen, has been awarded one toque by Gault&Millau and combines panoramic views with fine cuisine. Taking it a step further is GuatzEssen in Stumm, which, with four toques, is the highest-rated restaurant in the entire Zillertal and focuses primarily on ingredients from its own garden.
Zillertal Beer – for over 500 years
Beer has been brewed in Zell am Ziller since 1500; today, the Lechner/Kolbitsch family is in its 16th generation of brewers. At the BrauKunstHaus, visitors can learn all about the brewery’s history on a multimedia tour and then sample the full range of beers—including the legendary Gauder Bock, which is brewed exclusively for the famous Gauderfest.
Schnapps from Our Own Valley
The Zillertal has a long tradition of schnapps distillation. Right in Hart, the Kölblhof is a small farm distillery that produces its own premium schnapps and distills it twice—the Zillertal “Zichner,” a Swiss stone pine schnapps, is especially recommended.
